First, allow me to dispel a major motherhood myth for you. It is POSSIBLE to lose the baby weight in the first four months after you give birth.

I do realize that everyone’s body is different but I’ve noticed that some moms fall into the trap of using nursing as an excuse not to take care of themselves after giving birth. Let me stop you here.

I shed 40 pounds in the first 4 months after giving birth to my child, and I’ve never felt better. If you strongly desire and are committed to seeing your body back to normal, in this article you will find the three core elements to my dramatic transformation, including how I got rid of my sugar cravings and why I never start my workout with cardio first!

#1 Super Breakfast

I started the day with a whole-food meal to fuel my body and kick-start my metabolism. I designed a delicious super power breakfast to give my body the start it needed. Here is the recipe and I will explain later why this particular ingredient mix is most effective:

  • 3 tablespoons rolled oats – High in fiber and slow release energy
  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds – Packed with nutrients and a great source of protein
  • 5-6 pieces chopped walnuts – Omega-3 fatty acids, powerful antioxidant
  • Cover with organic whole milk – Naturally balanced source of protein, carbs and fat
  • Add fruit to taste for extra goodness and vitamins – Peach, berries, banana etc.

Starting the day with this extremely healthy, nutrient dense bowl of slow release energy was absolutely essential for my rapid transformation and weight loss. This particular breakfast mix is crafted to provide your body with metabolism boosting complex carbohydrates, healthy fats, multiple top quality sources of protein, and tons of vitamins for strength and energy. The abundance of fiber also helps during the cleansing process, while the high antioxidant content will revive you.

Overall, as it comes to the diet, all I did was to eat right and try to stick to fresh produce. I was never on any special diet (diet is not my thing!), but followed one important rule that I describe in part 3 of this article.

#2 Smart Workout Workflow

I hit the gym with passion! Six weeks after giving birth to my beautiful baby, I started an intensive exercise regime 3-4 days a week. Check with your doctor before going ahead, but six weeks is fine for most people (I must admit I went to one yoga class at week 4 but decided to follow the doctor’s recommendation and wait for 2 more weeks).

My workout routine combined strength training and cardio into the same session. And here is the secret: the order in which you perform these activities is vitally important to your weight loss. Contrary to many people’s exercise routine, the cardio portion should come last. Strength training is anaerobic, meaning that your body will get much of its energy from blood sugars and carbohydrates stored deep within your muscles. With these stores then depleted, when you get to your cardio workout, your body will be forced to burn body fat. Aim for 20-30 minutes of whole body strength training, followed by 15-30 minutes of fat shredding cardio.

Last advice on the workout portion of the transformation: Don’t fall into the trap of giving into the tiredness of sleepless life with a new baby; exercising for 40-60 minutes, every other day will reenergize you, give you the break you need, and build your physical and mental strength.

#3 No More Cravings

Beat the sugar addiction and reset your metabolism! After giving birth, my body went through a variety of changes and I decided that it was a great time to break vicious addictions and get free of stubborn cravings. My guilty pleasure during the entire 9-month pregnancy was one ice-cream on a stick every night before going to bed. But I kicked that out of my diet after I gave birth. I broke the sugar addiction and reset my organism by doing a 10 day sugar detox challenge – in other words, I quit all fast sugar foods for a 10-day period. This included all processed food, fruit juices, salad dressings, fruit yogurt, sweet drinks and soda, alcohol and desserts. The results were overwhelming and even shocking to me! Not only I started losing weight immediately but I also saw reductions in my hunger pangs, as well as improvements in my energy levels and general well-being. I managed to reset my organism. After as little as 2 weeks from the time I quit sugar, I stopped craving sweet before going to bed, I didn’t have the desire to eat sweet during the day as well, and most importantly, at the times when I was exposed at all kinds of dessert beauties, I was not tempted to have any at all!

I was liberated in the most natural way, without even struggling not to eat sweets! How amazing was that. I am now a very happy mom who looks just great and feels a great sense of achievement.
