Why Soymilk Might Not Be The Healthiest Choice For You?
In the last decade, there has been much public attention regarding lactose intolerance—and how difficult it is for our bodies to process dairy. On top of that, many are making the move to vegan and vegetarian diets—meaning that the demand for non-dairy milk products has drastically increased.
Currently the most consumed non-dairy milk product is soymilk—but just because something is the most popular, does not mean it is the healthiest. Below you will find the truth about soymilk, and why you may want to consider some other non-dairy alternatives.
If It’s Not Organic, It Is Likely To Contain GMO
Most soymilk has been genetically modified, meaning that the soybeans it is made with are created through genetic engineering that results in unstable combinations of plant, animal, bacterial and viral genes that cannot occur in nature or in traditional crossbreeding.

Calcium Content Is Lower
Dairy products play a vital role in ensuring we have the calcium we require on a daily basis, but if you read the label—you will find the truth about soymilk, and that it has drastically less calcium than cow’s milk. However, you may be able to find blends that have been infused with added calcium.
Although soy is derived from plant based ingredients, even “healthy” selections can have a downside when consumed in high quantities. If you drink soymilk, and eat a large amount of soy products—such as soy cheese and tofu, you may be at a higher risk for thyroid concerns, hormonal imbalances, and digestive inflammation for the added carrageenan.
This is not to say that you cannot add soymilk to your diet, but that you must know what to look for in soymilk when making a healthy choice.
