Travel can be exhausting—long hours sitting on a cramped plane, waiting at an airport, or trying to find your way around a new city. If you’re not careful, it can take a serious toll on your health.
There’s the fatigue that comes from travel. The digestive problems you get from eating new, processed or unfamiliar foods. The skin issues you get from sitting in an air-conditioned plane or spending time in the sun. The muscle aches and pains from too many hours spent in a seat. And the list goes on!
If you want to keep your body healthy—inside and out—while you travel, here are a few travel essentials to take with you everywhere:
Glass or BPA-free plastic water bottle. Traveling can leave you dehydrated, but you’ll never know it until your head’s aching and you’ve got that nasty dry taste in your mouth. Take a water bottle with you as you travel, and make it a point to drink at least half a liter of water while in the airport, another half-liter while flying, and another when you land.
Hand sanitizer. You’ll be exposed to a lot of germs while you travel: on airplane seats, bathroom door handles, and the list goes on! Have a small bottle of hand sanitizer so you can give your hands a cleaning before you eat or drink.
Cream or lotion. Something, anything, to give your skin a bit of moisture while traveling! Whether you use a skin cream, lotion, or serum, you want to combat the dryness that sets in during longhaul airplane flights, as well as the changes of humidity and temperature in your travel destination.
Healthy snacks. If you get hungry while traveling, you’re far more likely to end up eating the wrong (unhealthy and pricey) airport foods. Pack yourself a few healthy snacks—a piece of fresh fruit, some nuts and seeds, dried fruits, a healthy protein bar, or even a salad. Anything you can eat for a quick energy boost to keep you from feeling hungry while traveling.

Lip balm. The last thing you want is dry and chapped lips, a common problem when you travel and don’t drink enough water. A stick of lip balm in your pouch, backpack, or purse can save you from days of misery!
Eye mask. If you don’t get enough sleep, you’re going to feel it the next day/s! An eye mask can help to block out the lights of the airplane cabin, flashing through the train window, or seeping through the curtain of your hotel room. It’ll also help to keep your eyes relaxed as you sleep, reducing the chances of wrinkles forming!
Neck pillow. A stiff, achy neck can make for a miserable trip. An inflatable neck pillow can provide your head the support you need to travel in comfort, protecting your cervical spine and stopping those nasty muscle kinks. The beauty of inflatable pillows is that they roll up nice and tight to fit in any backpack or purse.
Entertainment. If you’re going to spend hours traveling, you’ll want to enjoy those hours! That means doing something that helps you to relax, takes your mind off the stresses of the trip ahead, and even stops you from worrying about turbulence. Whether that’s a good book, your favorite TV show, or a kick-ass playlist, it’s worth investing a bit of time (and, if need be, money) into preparing some entertainment to keep you at ease and anxiety-free during your trip.
Probiotic. If you’re the sort who gets an upset digestive tract during long trips, you’ll want to find something to settle it. A probiotic will help to balance out your digestion, improve the beneficial bacteria in your gut, and maintain regularity in your bowel movements. Look for a probiotic that’s stable at room temperature, and take it with you on every trip.
Greens or superfood supplement. It can be tough to eat healthy when on the go, especially if you’re spending a lot of time sitting in airports or train stations. Not a lot of green eateries serving raw food, so you’ll have to find a way to get more nutrients on your own. Enter a green/superfood supplement! With just one scoop-full of the stuff every day, you get a hefty dose of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants—perfect for keeping you healthy while on the go.
Sunscreen. Always pack a bottle to keep yourself from getting too badly burned when spending time on the beach or exploring the streets of your destination!
