Summertime is here, which means plenty of heat and sunlight!

It’s important to hydrate all year round, but during the summer, it’s particularly imperative that you go out of your way to drink extra fluids to stave off dehydration.

To make things a little bit tastier, we’ve come up with seven delicious summer drinks that will rehydrate you and dazzle your taste buds in a truly delightful way. You’ll never have trouble getting your recommended fluid intake with these drinks on the menu!

Passionfruit Green Tea summer drink

1.Passionfruit Green Tea

Looking for anti-inflammatory drinks in the summer? Passionfruit is loaded with Vitamin C and other antioxidants, which help to reduce inflammation, encourage collagen production, and stave off free radical damage.

The fruit is also rich in the iron needed to produce red blood cells. Pair it with fat-busting, metabolism-boosting, antioxidant-rich green tea, and you’ve got a superstar combination you’ll enjoy to the last sip.

For this drink, you will need:

  • 2 cups of green tea
  • ½ cup of passionfruit juice OR ¼ cup of passionfruit mix
  • 1 teaspoon of honey

Brew your cups of green tea, and leave them in the fridge to chill. When cold, mix in the passionfruit and half a teaspoon of honey, just enough to add a bit of sweetness to the very tart fruit. Serve over ice and enjoy!

2.Iced Chai Tea

Chai tea is a delightful combination of black tea and spices like cloves, star anise, cinnamon, and cardamom. The ingredients make for a powerful antioxidant punch, many of which are found nowhere else.

Make your own cold-brew chai tea and serve it over ice with a splash of your favorite nut milk (coconut, almond, oat, etc.) for maximum refreshment.

To cold-brew your chai tea:

  • Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a kettle or pot, and add two black tea bags. Let it steep for 10 to 20 minutes, and once it’s cool, add two more cups of water.
  • Add in your chai tea mix—either in the form of tea bags or the actual spices—and let it cold-brew in the fridge for up to 24 hours.

Serve with a bit of agave syrup, monk fruit, or Stevia for sweetener. Add rice, oat, almond, or coconut milk as desired.

Vegan Peanut Butter Chocolate Protein Shake

3.Vegan Peanut Butter Chocolate Protein Shake

Nothing pulls double duty like a protein shake, perfect for both beating the heat and tanking up on amino acids post-workout. This protein shake will provide extra calories from healthy fats to ensure you’ve got energy to get through the rest of your workday.

For this recipe, you will need:

  • 1 ½ scoops of chocolate-flavored vegan protein powder
  • ½ cup of plant-based milk (of your choice)
  • 1 tablespoon of natural peanut butter
  • Baking cocoa (optional)

Mix the protein powder, milk, and peanut butter in the blender with plenty of ice. For a fancy finish and extra flavor, sprinkle a pinch of baking cocoa on the top.

4.Green Juice: A Veggie-Packed Refreshment

Time to top up on veggies like a boss! Veggies are an amazing source of fiber that will fill you up and quash those hunger pangs for hours.

For this recipe, you will need:

  • 1 apple
  • 1 handful of frozen spinach
  • 2 celery stalks
  • 1 handful of frozen kale
  • 1 cactus (nopal) leaf
  • Juice of 2 limes

Run the apple through the juicer and use that as the sweet “base” of the green juice. Add the celery and nopal leaf to the juicer as well. Pour the juice, along with the lime juice, into the blender, add the kale and spinach, and blend.

Serve over ice for maximum chill.

5.Orange Superstar: Vitamin A Boost

Orange-colored fruits and veggies are loaded with Vitamin A, the antioxidant crucial for protecting your eyes and skin against the bright summer sun. This juice is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.

For this recipe, you will need:

  • 2 oranges
  • 2 carrots

Squeeze the orange juice by hand, and run the carrots through the juicer. Blend with a bit of ice and serve.

6.Cucumber Lemon Mint Sparkler: A Cool Classic

To beat the heat, keep a pitcher of this delightful flavored sparkling water in your fridge at all times. You’ll find you drink cup after cup and never get tired of it!

For this recipe, you will need:

  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 bunch of mint
  • 600 ml of bubbly water/club soda

Slice the lemon and cucumber into thin slices, and put them in a pitcher with 2 cups of plain water. Rip the mint sprigs apart by hand and add as much as you want. Set in the fridge for 4-6 hours.

Just before drinking, add in the bubbly water to bring on the fizz.

Avocado Lemonade summer drinks

7.Avocado Lemonade: A Creamy Twist on a Classic

This Mexican classic takes the tangy sweetness of lemonade and adds a rich, creamy twist that will enchant your palate. It’s refreshing and incredibly satiating—you won’t be hungry for hours after drinking this!

For this recipe, you will need:

  • 1 avocado
  • 6 limes
  • 1 teaspoon of a sweetener of your choice (honey, Stevia, agave syrup, or monk fruit)

Juice the limes, and add them into the blender with 1-2 cups of water (depending on how tart you like it). Add some ice and blend thoroughly.

Cut the avocado in half and drop it into the blender along with your chosen sweetener. Blend until the avocado is fully pureed and you have a thick, creamy lemonade.

These summer drinks will make it so much easier to stay hydrated, and you’ll look forward to drinking more fluids because of how absolutely tasty they are. The fact that they’re packed with nutrients—macro and micro—makes them a wonderful addition to your healthy summer diet.

It also contains brain-healthy L-theanine and can reduce your blood sugar.
  • Iced Chai Tea. The base of iced chai tea – black tea – helps to lower your blood sugar, and it contains flavonoids that reduce your chances of developing heart disease. And the spices that give the tea its unique personality have antioxidant properties that combat oxidative stress and lower your risk of getting cancer.
  • Vegan Peanut Butter Chocolate Shake. This drink helps to fuel your body with plant-based protein and healthy fats. And the cocoa powder is nutrient-dense. It’s got essential minerals like phosphorus, magnesium, iron, calcium, and selenium, all of which contribute to your overall energy and vitality.

Tips for Staying Hydrated All Summer

Now that you’ve got some delectable, healthy drinks to enjoy this summer, you’re in a good spot.

Here are a few other tips to ensure you’re hydrated all summer long:

  • Drink throughout the day before you’re thirsty, instead of after you’re parched.
  • Tailor your drinks to your personal taste (adding healthy spices and sweeteners as needed); when you enjoy what you’re drinking, you’ll drink more.
  • Pair these drinks with hydrating summer foods like cucumbers, watermelons, and tomatoes.

Last but not least – watch how much alcohol and caffeine you consume as they can be dehydrating due to their diuretic properties.

Conclusion: Beat the Heat Deliciously

With the seven summer drinks we’ve covered above, staying hydrated never has to be boring.

These refreshing drinks are just what you need to beat the heat deliciously after a workout, while hanging out at home, or as you lounge poolside. You can’t go wrong with either of them!
